Movie-goers Choose Santikos Entertainment and Become Part of the Social Enterprise Legacy

Santikos is the only movie theatre company in the world that donates a portion of every dollar earned back to the community

SAN ANTONIO, June 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As movie-goers flock to theatres to see the new summer blockbusters, Santikos Entertainment is giving them a special opportunity to help the community. A group of premier entertainment venues in San Antonio and Houston, Santikos Entertainment is the only theatre company in the world and only one of a handful of businesses in America that donates a portion of every dollar earned back to the community.

Through Santikos Entertainment, an asset of the San Antonio Area Foundation, approximately $12 million is expected to be gifted to San Antonio area charities in 2016, and over the next 10 years, $20 million per year or $400,000 per week will be gifted to the community.

"We all have a stake in creating a vibrant and prosperous community," said David Holmes, CEO of Santikos Enterprises. "You can see a movie anywhere, but every time you see a movie at a Santikos theatre, you become a vital part of our charitable legacy because all of the economic benefits associated with our operations are reinvested directly back into our community. We are the only theatre group that exists solely for the purpose of supporting our community."

This unique social enterprise began when Texas cinema pioneer and visionary John L. Santikos decided to use his entertainment empire to provide a better life for residents in Central Texas. Upon his death in December 2014, his estate donated more than $605 million in assets to the San Antonio Area Foundation-- a gift that is the largest single charitable donation in the history of San Antonio and one of the largest in the United States in 2015.

The net result of dollars spent on movie tickets and amenities at any Santikos theatre funnels back into the local community. Through the foundation, Santikos identified a variety of charitable giving areas. Nonprofit organizations from eight Texas counties are eligible to receive support.

This summer Santikos Entertainment has given movie-goers another reason to become part of its charitable legacy with the opening of the Casa Blanca, the first 100% laser projection theatre in the world, illuminating all 16 screens. The Casa Blanca offers the best sound technology available, the biggest movie screens in Texas, in-theatre dining with an upscale menu, and recliner seating. A family entertainment center, it also offers 16 lanes of bowling, a full-service sports bar, arcade and café.

Santikos' record-setting donation put social enterprise at the forefront of the Santikos cinema empire. Now movie-goers are accepting the invitation to become part of the legacy. For more information, visit www.santikos.com.
