SoftBank Releases Web Movie to Convey Excellence of Smartphones

SoftBank Releases Web Movie to Convey Excellence of Smartphones

- Smartphone Connects Elderly Woman on Remote Island in Okinawa with Her Grandchildren in Osaka -

TOKYO, June 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- SoftBank Corp. released a web movie on May 25 to convey the excellence of smartphones to consumers.

Video URL: https://youtu.be/yY12m7tjghI

A heart-warming story in the movie features an elderly woman living on Tarama Island, a remote island in Okinawa Prefecture, where the penetration rate of smartphones is low.

She missed her grandchildren living in Osaka, located far from Tarama, because she can see them only once a year. SoftBank produced communications devices on an experimental basis that helped her have the virtual experience of using a smartphone to see how her grandchildren were growing. With the help of her son and his wife, the woman can regularly see her grandchildren now, using these devices even though they are far away from each other.

- Movie themed on "Analog Innovation"

In response to requests from those who say, "We can't use a smartphone and can't see how our grandchildren are growing," SoftBank updated analog tools that elderly people are used to using. "Analog Innovation" allowed the elderly woman on Tarama Island to have the virtual experience of using a smartphone.

- One family experiences "Analog Innovation" on Tarama where smartphones are not prevalent

The story in the movie is set on Tarama Island, one of the areas where the penetration rate of smartphones is low. An elderly woman living on the island uses an ordinary mobile phone but has never sent an email. SoftBank updated analog tools she was used to using into new communications devices that even those who are not familiar with digital devices can easily use, teaming with her son living in Osaka, to help the woman familiarize herself with smartphones.

- Video showing her "Analog Innovation" experience released online on May 25

The documentary video showing the Tarama family's "Analog Innovation" experience was released online on May 25. Viewers can see how the elderly woman on Tarama Island uses new communications devices to regularly communicate with her grandchildren she had previously been unable to contact frequently.

Keanu Reeves and castmates raise awareness of eating disorders in PSA for first-ever World Eating Disorders Action Day

Keanu Reeves and castmates raise awareness of eating disorders in PSA for first-ever World Eating Disorders Action Day

TORONTO, May 31, 2016 /CNW/ - In support of World Eating Disorders Action Day on June 2, Keanu Reeves and other cast members of an upcoming feature film about anorexia will appear in a public service announcement (PSA) that dispels myths about eating disorders.

The 90-second spot features Reeves and other actors from the soon-to-be-released drama, To The Bone, reciting the nine truths of eating disorders, including the fact that eating disorders are serious, biologically influenced illnesses -- not personal choices.

Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Anorexia and Bulimia kill an estimated 1,000 to 1,500 Canadians per year, often going untreated despite the potential for full recovery. They affect as many as 70 million people worldwide, regardless of gender, age, racial and ethnic identity, ability and socioeconomic background.

"The first-ever World Eating Disorders Action Day sends a powerful message to policymakers across the globe on the need for action, underscores the fact that eating disorders don't discriminate and at the same time gives hope for successful intervention," says Amy Cunningham, co-founder of International Eating Disorder Action.

Events will kick off with a 30-hour Tweetchat-a-Thon under the Twitter handle @WorldEDday, using the hashtags #WeDoAct and #WorldEatingDisordersDay to promote awareness. In Ontario, landmarks including Niagara Falls, Toronto City Hall and the Mississauga Clock Tower will be lit in gold to mark the international day of action.

More than 150 organizations in 38 countries will participate in World Eating Disorders Action Day, including NEDIC -- Canada's National Eating Disorder Information Centre and operator of the country's toll-free eating disorder helpline.

"NEDIC is proud to be part of this historic event," says NEDIC Acting Director Suzanne Phillips. "Focusing global attention on eating disorders and the fact that recovery is possible will help us all, collectively, break down the stigma that so often prevents people from getting the help they need."

The PSA featuring the cast of To the Bone will be released in conjunction with World Eating Disorder Awareness Day on June 2. The film itself stars Reeves, Lily Collins and Carrie Preston, and tells the story of a young artist suffering from anorexia who is pushed by an unorthodox doctor to confront her illness. Inspired by writer/director Marti Noxon's own struggle with anorexia, it is scheduled for release in 2017.

The National Eating Disorder Information Centre (NEDIC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1985 to provide information and resources on eating disorders and food and weight preoccupation. NEDIC is a program of the University Health Network in Toronto, Canada.

Frank D'Angelo's Sicilian Vampire, starts playing on Video-On-Demand June 1st

Frank D'Angelo's Sicilian Vampire, starts playing on Video-On-Demand June 1st

TORONTO, May 31st, 2016 /PRNewswire/ - After a successful run in theatres, the feature film Sicilian Vampire, will be available in worldwide distribution on Video-On-Demand starting June 1(st )on all major video platforms.

Sicilian Vampire has been one of the most anticipated Frank D'Angelo films of the year, and one of the most talked about films on the film festival circuit. Now, people who missed it in theatres will have the opportunity to see it in their own homes at the time of their choosing.

Written, directed and produced by Frank D'Angelo, Sicilian Vampire stars such outstanding actors such as James Caan, Daryl Hannah, Paul Sorvino, Robert Loggia, Armand Assante, Robert Davi, Michael Paré, Eric Roberts, Daniel Baldwin, Tony Nardi and Frank D'Angelo.

Equal parts Goodfellas and Dusk till Dawn, Sicilian Vampire tells the story of reputed mobster Sonny Trafficante who was hoping to get away to the family hunting lodge for a little rest and relaxation and create some memories. Instead, what he gets is a night he will never forget in a story which takes movie lovers on a whirlwind journey of action, suspense and drama that can only come from the mind of Frank D'Angelo.

"Not everyone can possibly get to a movie theatre to see a film so we welcome this new opportunity to showcase Sicilian Vampire to the world with an amazing star-studded cast, and the thrill-a-minute exciting story."

Frank D'Angelo has written, produced, directed and acted in four feature films in the last three years and has now completed his fifth film The Red Maple Leaf. One of his most ambitious projects to date, The Red Maple Leaf is dedicated to Robert Loggia and Doris Roberts as it was the last film that the two great actors starred in along with other Oscar-winning and nominated actors Martin Landau, James Caan, Mira Sorvino, Kris Kristofferson, Paul Sorvino, Laurie Fortier, Frank D'Angelo and many others. D'Angelo's earlier films include No Deposit (a story about a family man, who falls from grace through a series of downward spiraling events beyond his control), The Big Fat Stone (a story of a homeless man who, simply by being at the right place at the right time, gets a chance at a new life), and Frank's first film, Real Gangsters (the story of the Lo Giacomo family, one of the most successful crime syndicates in New York City), are currently in worldwide release through Video-On-Demand networks.

The success of the films has spurred a national Canadian concert tour for Frank D'Angelo and his 15-piece band in which he performs songs from the soundtracks of his movies which he wrote and scored. Tour dates and venues are available at http://frankdangelo.ca/events.

Frank D'Angelo is a screen writer, director, actor, musician and Canadian talk show host. As a performer, he knew there was a big void in Canada for Canadians to promote their talents and so he created The Being Frank Show, a nationally broadcast late night talk/variety show. It has boasted guests and show business luminaries such as Al Pacino, Paul Newman, Tony Bennett, Graham Greene, Bill Fichtner, Kim Coates, Estella Warren, Bai Ling, Reggae Rapper Snow, Pavlo, Dan Hill, Ian Thomas, Murray McLauchlan, Missi Pyle, Kevin Hearn of The Barenaked Ladies and many, many more. TheBeing Frank Show has just completed taping its 6(th) season.

Talented Artists Behind Today's Popular TV Shows & Movies Participate in Art Show, The Art of Post

LOS ANGLES and NEW YORK, May 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- What do you get when you ask the wildly talented creatives of the post-production community to display their personal artwork for two nights? Magic.

https://photos.prnewswire.com/prnvar/20160527/373151

Earlier this month, over 50 artists from the post-production community displayed their personal artworks in galleries in New York and Los Angeles. Editors, Post Producers, Sound Designers, Visual Effects Artists and Colorists behind films and shows such as Vinyl, Sex and the City, Titanic, Wall-E, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Money Monster all came together for the bi-coastal art show, displaying nearly 100 pieces of artwork--from political pieces to kinetic and musical abstract sculptures, and even a self-aware exploration rover.

Curated and presented by visual effects company, The Molecule, The Art of Post drew over 400 attendees and accolades from organizations and associations within the post-production industry.

"I knew I had some talented colleagues, but that doesn't even begin to describe the creativity in the room. Being able to see the variety of artwork and range of mediums was not only awe-inspiring, it left us speechless," says Lauren F. Ellis, The Art of Post's Co-Creator and Producer at The Molecule.

The Art of Post is soon to become an annual event with 2017 planning underway. Photos and information on participating in next year's show can all be found on The Art of Post website, artofpost.com

Funimation Entertainment Acquires Exclusive Rights To The First Japanese Feature-Length Anime Film "Momotaro, Sacred Sailors"

Funimation Entertainment Acquires Exclusive Rights To The First Japanese Feature-Length Anime Film "Momotaro, Sacred Sailors"

Newly Digitally Restored WWII-Era Film Premiered at 2016 Cannes Film Festival

FLOWER MOUND, Texas, May 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Funimation Entertainment is proud to announce its acquisition of the restored edition of Mitsuyo Seo's "Momotaro, Sacred Sailors" - the first feature-length animated film produced in Japan. Written and directed by Mitsuyo Seo (1911-2010), "Momotaro, Sacred Sailors" was a propaganda film produced in 1944 by Shochiku Co. Ltd. and released in 1945 during the final months of World War II. Earlier this year, with the financial support of Funimation and others, Shochiku restored the 74-minute, black and white film, which premiered during opening weekend of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in the Cannes Classics program. As part of its agreement with Shochiku, Funimation has secured exclusive rights to the theatrical, digital and home video distribution of the film in both the U.S. and Canada.

https://photos.prnewswire.com/prnvar/20160531/373579

"Mitsuyo Seo was a key figure in the development of Japan's anime industry and were honored to have been part of the restoration of 'Momotaro, Sacred Sailors' - one of his most famous works," said Gen Fukunaga, CEO and founder of Funimation. "This wonderful black and white film was created using almost 50,000 cels and offers superb animation, music and entertainment that is on par with any classic Disney film of the same era."

Seo based the film's story on the classic Japanese fairy tale of a boy named Momotaro, who was born from a peach and defeats monsters with the help of his animal friends. In Seo's movie, Momotaro and his friends are now Japanese naval paratroopers and the monsters represent the Allied Powers.

"This digitally restored version of Mitsuyo Seo's 'Momotaro, Sacred Sailors' is truly captivating," said Mike DuBoise, EVP and COO of Funimation. "Anime fans, film buffs and animators alike will not want to miss this seminal and historic work of Japanese animation."

Backed by Japan's Ministry of the Navy, Shochiku produced "Momotaro, Sacred Sailors" with a select crew of 70 that included Japanese animation pioneer Kenzo Masaoka (1898 - 1988) as director of shadowgraph. With a big budget at that time, the film was an animated epic on an unprecedented scale and was composed using almost 50,000 animation cels. Few saw the movie in theaters when it was released as most of Japan was fighting a war that would be lost just five months later. To create the restored print, Shochiku scanned a 35mm master print and internegative in 4K and restored it in 2K.

Short Synopsis

On the eve of a parachute mission during the war in the Pacific, a group of navy paratroopers, a monkey, a dog, a pheasant, and a bear, go home for a brief visit before heading off with their squadron to their base in the South Pacific. Lead by boy warrior Momotaro, the squadron prepares to attack the enemy on Devil's Island.

On the eve before the attack, we learn why Momotaro and his squadron are called "sacred sailors." A story is told of a ship with white men arriving at a beautiful island. The captain tricks the king into thinking they are merchants and he welcomes them on the island. Quickly thereafter, the crew reveal themselves as pirates and then plunder the island. All that remained was a legend that "sacred sailors will come from the east" who will "free the people." Momotaro and his compatriots are these sacred sailors.

The attack on Devil's Island finally begins. The paratroopers quickly overpower the horned, white devils, who then surrender to Momotaro unconditionally. Peace returns to the South Pacific.

MADRID, May 31, 2016 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- La Embajada ('The Embassy'), the latest exclusive premiere on the series channel Atresmedia Internacional, is a riveting thriller that navigates through zones of personal ambition, power at any price, intrigue, betrayal, boundless passion, lust and love.

Located in Thailand, 'La Embajada' features Luis Salinas as one of its protagonists, Spain's new ambassador to this Asian land. He moves there with his family, intent on giving their lives a new direction and performing his mission flawlessly. And yet, this country and the exotic universe through which the characters move will become the beginning of the end of his personal and professional life.

A wolf in sheep's clothing awaits Luis at his new destination: Eduardo, chargé d'affaires pending arrival of the new ambassador; a man whose ambition drives him to set in motion a Machiavellian scheme.

Along with the main plot, the series includes a not at all conventional marriage consisting of Eduardo and Fátima (Raúl Arévalo and Amaia Salamanca); an impossible love triangle (Claudia, the ambassador's wife, Carlos, a young backpacker, and Ester, the ambassador's daughter), and a forbidden couple (Ester and Roberto, Eduardo's brother). At the same time, a wide array of characters - all close to the ambassador's circle of power - strive to achieve their aims, whatever they may be.

Chapter 1: 'Hand in the fire'

A line of police vans drives into the Spanish embassy grounds in Thailand. The officers go straight to the office of the ambassador, Luis Salinas, who is arrested for money laundering, bribery, influence peddling and much more, as the search turns up wads and wads of cash. As the trial gets started, the first person to testify is Claudia, the ambassador's wife, who tells her story since she arrived in Thailand a year ago.

SOCAN Launches API's to Drive Music Royalties Innovation

SOCAN Launches API's to Drive Music Royalties Innovation

Enables app developers to transform digital era music rights management

TORONTO, May 31, 2016 /CNW/ - In another leading move, music rights organization SOCAN has unveiled an application program interface (API) portal that enables a marketplace of new innovative apps that will revolutionize how music creators and music publishers work with SOCAN to get paid when their music is played.

SOCAN is using API technology - the digital glue that links large databases such as SOCAN's with apps, mobile phones, and websites - to push music royalty management innovation out to the marketplace, transforming how music rights are managed in the digital era.

The first two APIs announced today are "Song Registration" and "Concert Notification." Song/Work Registration enables writers to use new workflow apps and software to register their songs more accurately with their music publishers, labels, digital services and SOCAN.

The Concert Notification API enables songwriters and music publishers to easily register their concerts with SOCAN to get paid faster and more accurately for their live performances.

The API launches with three innovative partners: David Murphy et ©ie (www.davidmurphy.ca), SongSplits (www.songsplits.com) and TGiT (www.tagyourmusic.com/en).

SOCAN's development partner and first user of the Concert Notification API is Montréal-based music publisher David Murphy et ©ie, which is now successfully registering clients' concerts with SOCAN through the API, ensuring faster and accurate payment. SOCAN anticipates that other medium and large music publishers, along with third-party providers, will connect their copyright management systems to the SOCAN database in this manner.

Toronto-based SongSplits is "the world's first cloud based split sheet," enabling co-writers to negotiate their percentage contribution, or "splits," and ensure that all of the associated data (title, writers, etc.) is accurate and thorough when it is registered with SOCAN via the Song/Work Registration API.

Montréal-based TGiT ("tag it") is an open source music tagging software platform that allows music creators to manage the descriptive information, tags and metadata associated with their original compositions and sound recordings, for export to SOCAN through the Song/Work Registration API.

David Murphy et ©ie, SongSplits and TGiT each contributed to the creation of the first API's and will continue to use them to develop future applications for their customers.

By ensuring that music creators can easily agree on and export the data that the music royalty system depends on, these apps and SOCAN's API's will go a long way to clean up missing, conflicting and inaccurate data that bogs down the current global royalty system, particularly in digital streaming.

"SOCAN is leading the transformation of music rights by using technology to get songwriters and music publishers paid fairly when their music is played, especially in the challenging digital music royalty area," said Michael McCarty, Chief Membership & Business Development Officer at SOCAN. "We are enabling a new segment of what we call the 'RightsTech' industry - developers who are creating new digital tools that will help to modernize a royalty system that was developed for the vinyl era."

Companies that wish to utilize the SOCAN API's can do so at no cost through the SOCAN Developer Portal (https://developer.socan.ca), where they can register, download software code, and develop and test their apps in a secure sandbox before going live, helping SOCAN members get paid when their music is played.

About SOCAN
SOCAN is a member-based organization that represents the Canadian performing rights of more than four-million Canadian and international music creators and publishers. SOCAN is proud to play a leading role in supporting the long-term success of its more than 135,000 Canadian members, and the Canadian music ecosystem overall. SOCAN licenses more than 130,000 businesses in Canada, and distributes royalties to its members and music rights organizations around the world. SOCAN also distributes royalties to its members for the use of their music internationally in collaboration with its peer societies. www.socan.ca

Li Yundi, Chai Liang and Warren Mok Star in Beijing Keystone Academy's First Open Air Concert

Li Yundi, Chai Liang and Warren Mok Star in Beijing Keystone Academy's First Open Air Concert

BEIJING, May 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Spring, with its scintillating blossoms and soothing breeze, has inspired many an artist. Botticelli's Primavera, Brown's The Pretty Baa-Lambs, Monet's Springtime and van Gogh's Almond Blossom are just a few of the stupendous manifestations on canvas that come to mind. Meanwhile, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Schumann's Spring Symphony, Mendelssohn's Spring Song and others are classical aural delights.

http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnvar/20160526/372475

From canvases to compositions, spring is magical. To recreate some of this spring magic, Beijing's Keystone Academy brought together three artists who presented the 1,500 people in the audience with an unmatched sensation of spring through music and song. Backed by the China National Broadcasting and Film Symphony Orchestra, renowned pianist, Li Yundi, famous operatic tenor, Warren Mok, and violin virtuoso and conductor, Chai Liang, transformed Melodies of Spring: A Concert from an outdoor concert to an out-of-this-world experience.

Set in the center of the school's impressive residential campus, the concert was both intimate and grand. The evening began with a few classical pieces performed by the Symphony Orchestra starting with the John Williams' Olympic Fanfare and Theme, followed by Bizet's The Carmen Suites. Tenor Mok then took the stage with a riveting rendition of Wang Luobin's Faraway and Eduardo Di Capua's Neapolitan composition 'O Sole Mio'. Li Yundi closed the evening with an enthralling performance of Chopin.

Audiences were so mesmerized that they requested an encore, which Li Yundi responded to with Chopin's Nocturne Op.9. No.2. It was an especially enchanting evening for residential staff and students because, as many of them said, it is such a special experience and privilege to attend a concert in one's own home. And for those who do not live in the Keystone residences, they definitely went home filled with the bliss and beauty of spring.

This musical extravaganza is part of the Keystone Classical Music Series that is a platform to appreciate the arts in its many forms, including ballet, music, and ancient art traditions such as Kun Qu. It also enriches the school's academic and social ethos, especially for our students, by strengthening creativity, encouraging cultural fluency, and exposing them to the best and talented in diverse fields and disciplines.

Meet the Artists

Li Yundi

Li Yundi, often called the prince of piano, was launched onto the international stage of music with his first prize at the XIV Chopin International Piano Competition at the age of 18. He is regarded as the leading exponent of Chopin's music, and has even been officially recognized by the Polish government for his contribution to their culture with a Gold Medal for Merit to Culture "Gloria Artis" in 2010.

Warren Mok

Warren Mok began his international career in opera with a debut in 1987 at the Deutsche Opera. Since then, he has appeared as a guest in many operas around the world. He is currently the artistic director of the Macau International Music Festival, and founder and artistic director of Opera Hong Kong.

Chai Liang

A member of the String Department of China's Central Conservatory of Music, Chai Liang is a well-known violinist. He conducted this spring concert. He has performed with orchestras around the world, and has won many prizes in his violin career, including the National Violin Competition for Arts Institutions in China, the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition in England, and the Japan International Music Competition.

About Keystone Academy

Keystone Academy, in operation since 2014, is located in Beijing, China. It is a non-profit, philanthropic educational venture governed by a board of trustees. The school blends distinctive traditions in eastern, western, and international education, creating a "new world school" that is academically outstanding and a new model of education in China. We learn from and we learn for this enterprising, global community.
