Tribune Television Stations and WGN America No Longer Available Via DirecTV

Contract Covering 19 TV Markets, WGN America, Will Expire Tonight

CHICAGO, March 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- As of midnight, tonight, Tribune television stations in 19 markets across the country will no longer be available via DirecTV, denying subscribers access to the local news, traffic, weather, sports and entertainment programming provided by those stations. DirecTV subscribers will also be unable to watch WGN America, Tribune's national cable network.

Tribune Broadcasting's contract with DirecTV will expire at midnight, Saturday, March 31. A new agreement has not been reached. By federal law, without an agreement in place, DirecTV cannot carry the signal of Tribune's local television stations. Tribune's local stations in the eastern time zone will be the first to be denied by DirecTV to its subscribers. Stations in other time zones will follow.

"This situation is extremely unfortunate," said Nils Larsen, Tribune Broadcasting president. "We don't want anyone to lose the valuable programming we provide, but we simply cannot get fair compensation from DirecTV and we cannot allow DirecTV to continue taking advantage of us."

DirecTV has never compensated Tribune for the rebroadcast of its television stations and Tribune is asking for an agreement that is similar to those that DirecTV already has in place with hundreds of other broadcasters and program providers.

"As baseball season gets underway, DirecTV's inflexibility means sports fans in some of our local markets such as Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington, will be deprived of one of baseball's most cherished events--Opening Day," said Larsen.

In Chicago, Cubs and White Sox baseball games broadcast on WGN-TV will be lost to subscribers, including the home openers of both teams. DirecTV subscribers in Philadelphia will lose access to Phillies baseball on WPHL-TV, including the team's home opener. In Washington, D.C., subscribers who are fans of the Nationals will not be able to see Nationals games on WDCW-TV, including their Opening Day contest with the Chicago Cubs. In New York, DirecTV subscribers will lose access to Mets baseball broadcast via WPIX-TV. Finally, DirecTV subscribers across the country will lose access to HD sports programming such as Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox baseball broadcast by WGN America.

"In addition, local news, weather, traffic and sports coverage will also be lost, as well as the high-quality entertainment programming we offer on our local stations," said Larsen. "This is a terrible outcome for the communities we serve and we regret that DirecTV has put us in this position."

In those markets in which Tribune owns the local Fox affiliate, DirecTV subscribers will lose entertainment programming such as "American Idol," "Glee," "New Girl" and sports programming such as NASCAR and Major League Baseball. In those markets where Tribune owns the local affiliate of The CW Network, DirecTV subscribers will lose programming such as "America's Next Top Model," "Gossip Girl," "Supernatural," "Vampire Diaries," and the series finale of "One Tree Hill." In New Orleans, where Tribune owns the local ABC affiliate, "Modern Family," and NBA basketball games will be unavailable to subscribers.

"There are options for DirecTV subscribers," said Larsen. "They don't have to miss their regular news or favorite shows. Our broadcast stations are available for free in HD with a TV antenna or through an alternative pay-TV provider."

Tribune has established a web site, www.telldirectv.com, to enable DirecTV subscribers to register their concerns about losing this valuable programming. "We've seen tremendous traffic to the website and a very high volume of calls, and we know that people will be disappointed and upset," said Larsen. "We're urging DirecTV subscribers to continue to make sure they are heard by calling DirecTV and engaging in social media via Twitter and Facebook."

Hosted by international superstar and 10-time KCA winner Will Smith, the awards were broadcast from the Galen Center at USC in Los Angeles where kids' top choices in television, movies, music and sports were revealed through a flying blimp, silver robot and sword swallower. Smith made an aerial entrance onto the venue by parachuting down from the official KCA blimp, a 246-foot orange airship situated above the arena. After rappelling to the stage and deactivating a booby trap set by a mysterious Creepy Voice determined to stop the show, Smith kicked off the silver anniversary celebration with a performance of "Can U Handle This" and balloons filled with confetti and slime.

First Lady Michelle Obama made her first-ever appearance at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards, presenting Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Taylor Swift with this year's The Big Help Award in recognition of her extensive philanthropic endeavors, including her work with tornado and flood survivors in the United States. The Big Help Award recognizes individuals who take actions to better the world and whose significant impact on their community has inspired kids to do the same.

The star-studded eventgot off to an immediate sticky start with Halle Berry's surprise sliming in her audience seat. In an epic battle that had the giants of wrestling literally swimming in the goo, The Big Show took down The Miz in the inaugural KCA Slime Wrestling World Championships. Hosted by Nick's Jeff Sutphen with WWE superstar Santino Marella serving as referee, the showdown was set in a special ring that slimed the audience each time one of them hit the ropes or the corner posts. Much to his disappointment, Cee Lo Green was not so green after being revealed as the Creepy Voice who tried to ruin the show. Instead, he got "ice cream sundae'd" by Smith who said being slimed was an honor and his behavior was unslimeable. Bieber, the mystery celebrity who won the live viewer vote during the show, received both a blimp and a slime bath as he and Smith closed the show in signature green style with slime cannons in the grand finale.

Kids paid tribute to their favorites by casting over 220 million votes March 1-March 31 in 20 categories. In addition to the Kids' Choice Awards website on Nick.com, families were able to vote via the Nick mobile website (wap.nick.com) and through a KCA app for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod. Fans were also able to vote for their favorite stars using a Facebook application on the Nickelodeon Facebook page. Users voted from a tab on the page and, for the first time ever, the entire voting experience could be embedded directly into Facebook wall posts. Over 60 varieties of beer will highlight the Big Brew Beer Festival to be held May 4th & 5th at the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset, NJ.

SOMERSET, N.J., March 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Beer lovers and music fans of the "Jersey Sound" are gearing up for the Big Brew Beer Festival coming to the Garden State Exhibit Center in Somerset May 4th & 5th.

Dozens of different breweries from around the nation and world will be showcasing their unique libations. It will be the perfect opportunity for beer aficionados and beer lovers to speak to brewery representatives and discover new beers.

"I could not be more pleased with the list of participating brewers. They all bring unique beers to the table and an enormous passion for brewing," said festival organizer Allison Kohler of JMK Events. "The Big Brew Beer Festival will offer event goers a diverse group of beers to choose from including popular brands and craft beers."

From 12 noon to 4pm on Saturday, the festival kicks off with a live Mariachi Band and music from the Tropical Storm Band.

On Saturday night, the event rocks out from 6 to 10pm with Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Southside Johnny is often referred to as the "Grandfather of the Jersey Sound".

The videos, which were commissioned and curated by Creative Time and MoMA PS1, will debut on MTV, MTV.com, MTV's Facebook page and a dedicated Tumblr page beginning Monday, April 2nd and continuing throughout 2012, bringing experimental artwork directly to MTV's global audience of more than 600 million.

Art Breaks builds on MTV's rich legacy of introducing its audience to vanguard video art, including early work from Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Spike Jonze, Kenny Scharf and Doug Aitken, as well as Andy Warhol's 15 Minutes. The first five videos in the new series include works by Rashaad Newsome, Mickalene Thomas, Tala Madani, Jani Ruscica, and Mads Lynnerup.

Rashaad Newsome (b. 1979 in New Orleans, lives and works in New York, NY) uses performance, photography, collage, video, sculpture, and sound to develop multimedia works that examine the intersection between pop and subculture forms. He has exhibited and performed at venues including The Kitchen and Centre Georges Pompidou, and his work was included in the 2010 Whitney Biennial and the Greater New York exhibition at MoMA PS1 in 2010. For Art Breaks, Newsome created a new video from his ongoing SWAG the Mix Tape project, inspired by his interest in the language of heraldry and the history of the mix tape in the context of the early days of hip-hop.

Newsome says, "As a kid I remember being captivated by the videos and animations that MTV would air in between programming. I am so excited to be a part of this project as MTV has been a huge inspiration for me and I can think of no other place better suited to premiere SWAG Vol. 2."

Mickalene Thomas (b. 1971 in Camden, lives and works in Brooklyn, NY) explores notions of beauty from a contemporary perspective, influenced by popular culture and pop art. She earned her MFA from Yale University School of Art and regularly participates in exhibitions internationally, with upcoming solo exhibitions at the Santa Monica Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum. ReVay, Thomas' piece for Art Breaks, is a snapshot-style portrait shot on Super 8 film that challenges conventional notions of sexuality and femininity.

Tala Madani (b. 1981 in Tehran, lives and works in Los Angeles, CA) creates stop-motion animations that utilize the bizarre and surreal to address cultural and gender differences, exploring connections between power structures, law, and language. Madani also graduated from the Yale University School of Art MFA program and has exhibited at MoMA PS1, the New Museum, the Saatchi Gallery, and the Venice Biennale. Her project for Art Breaks consists of the silent work Under Man, in which a man is aggressively pelted by objects until he decides to bury himself. Through film, video, and photography, Jani Ruscica (b. 1978 in Helsinki, lives and works in Helsinki, Finland) combines elements of cinema, video art, theater, and performance to produce collaborative works that investigate how one defines location and placement. For Art Breaks, Ruscica has collaborated with fellow Finnish artist Sini Pelkki on Screen Test (for a living sculpture), a video close-up of a performer quietly confronting the viewer in a fleeting moment rooted in mundane experience. Mads Lynnerup (b. 1976 in Copenhagen, lives and works in Brooklyn, NY) works in a variety of media, creating humorous and poignant works based on observations he makes of his immediate environment. Lynnerup has shown his work internationally, including at the San Francisco Museum of Art, the Miami Art Museum, and MoMA PS1. For Art Breaks, he has collaborated with a NYC-based personal trainer to create a video, titled Astrobright (fake and temporary), of short fitness workout segments that take an alternative approach to teaching the viewer how to keep him- or herself healthy via exercise routines that take place outside the gym.

China Digital TV Announces New Date of Dividend Payment

BEIJING, March 30, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- China Digital TV Holding Co., Ltd. (NYSE: STV) ("China Digital TV" or the "Company"), the leading provider of conditional access ("CA") systems to China's expanding digital television market, today announced that the payment of a special cash dividend (the "Dividend") to its shareholders, initially scheduled to be made on or around December 30, 2011, has received regulatory approval by the foreign exchange authority in China for the repatriation of U.S. dollars. The Company will transfer the dividend payment on April 6, 2012 to its eligible shareholders, among whom American Depositary Receipt (ADR) holders will receive the dividend payment approximately seven business days after the transfer in accordance with the ADR bank distribution process.

On May 20, 2011, the Company announced a special cash dividend of US$0.56 per share on the Company's ordinary shares, par value US$0.0005 per share. Shareholders of record, including holders of the Company's American Depository Shares ("ADSs"), as of the close of business on June 20, 2011, U.S. Eastern Daylight Time, are eligible to receive the Dividend. The record date for the Dividend is not affected by the new payment date. The total amount of the Dividend is US$33.421 million.

This is the third time that the Company has declared dividends to its shareholders since its initial public offering and listing on the NYSE in 2007. The Company's first declaration of dividends was announced in December 2008 and paid in January 2009. The second declaration of dividends of $2.00 per ADS was announced in November 2010 with two payment installments of $1.00 per ADS each in January and May of 2011, respectively.

Worldwide Satellite Trailer Debut of "Rock of Ages"

BURBANK, Calif., Under the direction of Adam Shankman ("Hairspray"), New Line Cinema's feature film adaptation of the smash hit Broadway musical "Rock of Ages" comes to the big screen.

"Rock of Ages" tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock 'n' roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and more.

The movie musical stars Julianne Hough ("Burlesque"), with actor/singer Diego Boneta in his feature film debut, Russell Brand ("Arthur," "Get Him to the Greek"), Oscar® nominee Paul Giamatti ("Cinderella Man"), Academy Award® winner Catherine Zeta-Jones ("Chicago"), Malin Akerman ("The Proposal") and R&B queen Mary J. Industry-wide Resource for Training and Education will Support Transition to Digital Workflows for Filmmakers

CULVER CITY, Calif., March 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony's Professional Solutions of America group (PSA) unveiled its Digital Motion Picture Center (DMPC) on Stage 7 last night at Sony Pictures Studios. Officially opening May 1, the Center will offer hands-on training for directors, cinematographers and other professionals in the film and television production industries on the use of Sony's groundbreaking F65 CineAlta(TM) digital motion picture camera and the production workflows supporting this new, state-of-the art digital acquisition system.

"This will be a place for the Hollywood production community to share experiences with their peers and help make the transition from 35mm film to digital production as seamless as possible," said Alec Shapiro, PSA senior vice president. "Here, on one stage, filmmakers and other content creators can shoot 4K pictures, process them through a 4K workflow on site at ColorWorks and view the results on a 4K projector."

Shapiro, who is also assuming responsibilities as president of the Sony DMPC, added that the extensive expertise of the professionals on the Sony Pictures Studios lot will be invaluable in launching this breakthrough camera with its unprecedented 8K image sensor.

"Critical to our future success is listening to the industry for their ideas and input to further advance the state of the art in digital production," he said. "This new Center will offer those capabilities on a level unmatched by any other facility in the world."

Several F65 projects are already underway across the industry. The first two movies being shot with the camera are Sony Pictures' recently announced "After Earth," the latest film from the production company Overbrook Entertainment and acclaimed director M. Night Shyamalan, and the Universal movie "Oblivion."

"The Center offers professionals an opportunity to see this exceptional camera in action and learn the best practices for using it."

Curtis Clark, ASC and chairman of the ASC Technology Committee, will play a critical role in directing the educational and training activities provided by the Center.

"The F65 is a sea change for our industry," said Clark. "We can shoot with this camera as we do with film. Since cinematographers and directors have decades of experience with shooting film, they know its capabilities and what they can expect from post finishing. With its 16-bit color and 4K spatial resolution, the F65 expands on these capabilities. This Center will help everyone become familiar with the tremendous potential of this new system and the workflow that supports it."

In addition to the F65, the Center will offer training and education for film and television production on Sony's range of Super 35mm digital systems, including the PMW-F3 camcorder and others. To help Sony keep the DMPC relevant to the needs of the production community, an industry advisory board has been selected. Members include: Ray Feeney, AMPAS Chair of IIF (ACES) project; Michael Goi, President, American Society of Cinematographers; Tom Walsh, President, Art Directors Guild; Hawk Koch, President, Producers Guild of America; Elizabeth Daley, Dean of USC School of Cinematic Arts; Steven Poster, President, International Cinematographers Guild; Leon Silverman, President, Hollywood Post Alliance; Gary Martin, President, Production Administration, Sony Pictures; and Curtis Clark, ASC.

Sony also plans to make the DMPC available to local rental companies and resellers to conduct training for their respective customers as well as 3rd party workflow partners including: Assimilate, Avid, Blackmagic, Codex, ColorFront, FilmLight, MTI Film and YoYotta.

Sony Pictures is currently conducting intensive F65 training workshops, following in the tradition set by its popular 3D Technology Center program. These sessions focus on digital workflows, DIT cart and dailies solutions. These workshops are linked to ColorWorks, Sony Pictures' digital intermediate facility, where F65 camera data will be evaluated in a digital intermediate color grading suite.
