2006 Sundance Film Festival Announces Films in Premieres Section

2006 Sundance Film Festival Announces Films in Premieres Section

Nicole Holofcener's Drama FRIENDS WITH MONEY to Open Festival in Park City With ALPHA DOG by Nick Cassavetes as Closing Film

SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- In the third of four program announcements, Sundance Institute today announced the line-up of films screening in the out-of-competition Premieres Section of the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, taking place January 19-29, 2006, in Park City, Utah. This follows prior announcements of Independent Feature Film and World Cinema Competitions, and the Spectrum, Frontier and Park City at Midnight categories. The Festival will screen a total of 120 feature films including 84 World Premieres, 18 North American Premieres, and 15 U.S. Premieres with 48 first time feature filmmakers. As the premier showcase for the best new work of American independent and international filmmakers, the Sundance Film Festival screens films that embody creative risk-taking, diversity and aesthetic innovation. Full descriptions of films are available at www.sundance.org.

For the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, 3,148 features were submitted for consideration including 1,764 U.S. feature films and 1,384 international feature films. These numbers represent an increase from 2005 when 1,385 U.S. feature films and 1,228 international films were considered. This year's Festival includes films from 29 countries including Mexico, France, Denmark, South Korea, New Zealand, China, Bosnia, South Africa, Iran and Brazil.

The Festival opens on January 19, 2006 in Park City with the World Premiere of FRIENDS WITH MONEY, written and directed by Nicole Holofcener and starring an ensemble cast that includes Jennifer Aniston, Scott Caan, Joan Cusack, Catherine Keener and Frances McDormand.

"Nicole Holofcener is one of the finest independent filmmakers and this film is perhaps her most accomplished and appealing work to date," said Geoffrey Gilmore, Director of the Sundance Film Festival. "With a magnificent ensemble cast, FRIENDS WITH MONEY addresses both contemporary social issues and personal lives, a characteristic of many great movies and a perfect film to open this year's Festival."

The Closing Film on Friday, January 27, 2006 in Park City will be the World Premiere of ALPHA DOG, written and directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Emile Hirsch, Justin Timberlake, Ben Foster, Anton Yelchin, Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone. ALPHA DOG is inspired by true events and the life of Jesse James Hollywood, a suburban drug dealer who became one of the youngest men ever to be on the FBI's most wanted list.

Other Festival highlights include the Opening Night Gala in Salt Lake City on Friday, January 20, 2006 featuring the U.S. Premiere of KINKY BOOTS, the directorial debut of Julian Jarrold, starring Joel Edgerton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nick Frost and Sarah-Jane Potts. KINKY BOOTS is a superb romantic comedy about a small town shoe factory finding new ways to manufacture their product to survive and the ways the factory workers must adapt.

Festival films screen in nine sections: Documentary Competition, Dramatic Competition, World Cinema Documentary Competition, World Cinema Dramatic Competition, Spectrum, Frontier, Park City at Midnight, Sundance Collection and Premieres. The Short Film program will be announced on Monday, December 5, 2005. A complete list of films and other information is available at www.sundance.org.

The Sundance Film Festival is a core program of Sundance Institute, a nonprofit organization dedicated year-round to the discovery and development of independent film and theatre artists and audiences. 2006 marks the 22nd year of the Festival and the Institute's 25th anniversary. Anniversary- related activities will take place throughout 2006 and will be announced at the Festival.

battle by a regiment of the Corps d'Afrique, one of the first African
American fighting units in the Union Army, was stolen from the United

missing until 1998 when it was offered for sale on the Internet.

-- THE CASE OF THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF PENNSYLVANIA - Over the course of
10 years more than 200 items from the Historical Society of
Pennsylvania were stolen. This multi-million dollar theft was an

Animal Planet Celebrates a Long Awaited Panda Birth and Chronicles the Remarkable Journey

Animal Planet Celebrates a Long Awaited Panda Birth and Chronicles the Remarkable Journey

- A PANDA IS BORN Premieres Saturday, December 10, at 8 PM (ET) with Never-Before-Seen-on-TV Birth -

SILVER SPRING, Md., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Not many creatures can captivate people like giant pandas. With their bold markings, roly-poly physique and distinctive play, they're adored around the world. They're also one of the most critically endangered species on the planet. Thanks to the efforts of the keepers and veterinary staff at the Smithsonian National Zoo and knowledge sharing between the United States and China, on July 9, 2005, success was achieved and a giant panda cub was born. Premiering Saturday, December 10, at 8 PM (ET), A PANDA IS BORN follows the zoo staff as they endure three nail-biting, unsuccessful seasons of panda mating for the National Zoo's female, Mei Xiang, and her mate, Tian Tian, culminating in the gripping event of an actual panda birth, never before seen on television.

Animal Planet partnered with the Smithsonian National Zoo in 2000 to cover the lives of Mei Xiang and Tian Tian and chronicled their journey in MEET THE PANDAS: WASHINGTON'S NEW POWER COUPLE. Over the past five years, Animal Planet has shot original footage for A PANDA IS BORN, chronicling the ups and downs of Mei Xiang and Tian Tian's reproductive struggles and finally the ultimate reward -- a panda birth -- alongside the keepers and vets who care about them the most. Through compelling video, viewers will learn about the mysteries of panda reproduction, as well as the broader context of panda care on their home turf in China. Featuring interviews with Mei Xiang and Tian Tian's keepers and members of the National Zoo's veterinary staff, the program sheds light on what it took to bring the cub Tai Shan into the world and the complex challenges involved in the fight to save the giant panda species.

A PANDA IS BORN primarily focuses on the struggle of Mei Xiang and Tian Tian to become parents, and also covers the 30-year history of giant pandas at the National Zoo from the original pair, Ling Ling and Hsing Hsing, to the present day. The special shows viewers the progress that has been made, and provides a timeline of the long wait for a successful panda birth.

"This touching special recognizes and celebrates the amazing connection between humans and animals," said Maureen Smith, executive vice president and general manager, Animal Planet. "Exploring this story illustrates that connection in its purest form by showing how invested everyone was -- from the zoo's staff to the production team and the public -- in the reproductive success of Mei Xiang and Tian Tian."

A PANDA IS BORN was produced by Film Garden Entertainment. Nancy Jacobs Miller and Michelle Van Kempen are the executive producers for Film Garden Entertainment. Amanda Crane is the co-executive producer for Film Garden Entertainment. Gary Benthin is the writer and supervising producer for Film Garden Entertainment. Alexandra Bennett is the executive producer for Animal Planet.

"Joy to the World," will premiere throughout the United States on many ABC-TV stations on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. On Dec. 18 Hallmark Channel will broadcast "Davey and Goliath's Snowboard Christmas," a stop- motion animated program which made its debut on Hallmark in 2004.

"Joy to the World" is a one-hour program prepared by the ELCA for the National Council of Churches USA and the Interfaith Broadcasting Commission.

Many ABC-TV stations plan to broadcast "Joy to the World" on Christmas Eve at 11:30 p.m., local time. Other stations may elect to air the program at some other time, usually on Dec. 24 or 25.

The program features Lutheran Christmas worship in various cultural traditions -- African American, American Indian, Arab and Middle Eastern, Asian and Latino. A Swedish Santa Lucia celebration introduces the mix of cultures recalling the birth of Jesus Christ through music and praise.

Services were recorded for the program during Christmas 2004 and involved seven ELCA congregations.

"Davey and Goliath's Snowboard Christmas" to Air Dec. 18
Hallmark will air "Snowboard Christmas" Dec. 18 at 7 a.m. Eastern/Pacific.

"Davey and Goliath" is a property of the ELCA. Faith-based adventures featuring Davey and his talking dog, Goliath, aired on commercial television in the 1960s and 1970s. "Snowboard Christmas" was the first new Davey and Goliath production in 30 years.

In "Snowboard Christmas" Davey learns some important lessons about Christmas, and about understanding and respect for people with different religious traditions. Davey makes a bad decision, even after being cautioned by Goliath, his faithful companion and conscience. Davey's actions land him and his new friends, Sam and Yasmeen, in a dangerous situation. Davey's parents play an important role in helping him understand the consequences of his actions.

"Snowboard Christmas" was named a "Best of Show" winner in the 2005 Aurora Awards and was a 2005 Telly Awards category finalist in Film/Video Television Programs for Children.

"Davey and Goliath's Snowboard Christmas" was produced by Premavision, Inc. (Clokey Productions), Los Osos, Calif., and executive produced by the ELCA.

Nickelodeon Ratings Surge in November!

Nickelodeon Ratings Surge in November!

Average Net Ratings Increase Double Digits from Month to Month Across Kid and Tween Demos

Network Continues Ten Year Run as the Number-One Rated Cable Net in Total Day Ratings

NEW YORK, Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Nickelodeon, the number-one rated cable network on a total day basis for more than 10 years, closes out the month of November winning double-digit increases in ratings from October across all kid and 'tween demos. The network averaged a 4.0/1.3 million kids 2-11, up +18% versus October's total day ratings, and on par with November's 2004 ratings. With kids 2-5, Nickelodeon earned a 4.6/564,000 K2-5 average, up +14% over last month, and with kids 6-11, Nickelodeon earned a 3.7/730,000, +20% over last month (flat versus last year). Among tweens 9-14, Nickelodeon earned a 2.8/569,000 T9-14, up 23% over last month (an increase of +12% over last year). Nickelodeon brought in about 2.3 million total viewers (P2+), and increase of +19% versus October and on par with last year.

The monthly ratings increase was driven by the success of Nick's Veteran's Day television events, Nick Jr.'s hot preschool properties, and the successful TEENick block, which has kept Nick as the top 'tween destination:

-- The half-hour special episode of SpongeBob SquarePants "Where's Gary"
on Friday, Nov. 11, marked the highest-rated program on all TV with
kids 2-11 for the year behind the Super Bowl and the Super Bowl kick-
off, and the highest-rated play on all of cable with kids 2-11 and kids
6-11 in 2005. "Where's Gary" was the highest-rated episode of
SpongeBob ever with kids 6-11. "Where's Gary" triumphed with kids 6-
11, averaging a 17.4/3.4 million K6-11, up +177% versus year-ago
levels.

-- The Nick Jr. block maintains the top five preschool shows on commercial
television, and is averaging a 6.1/753,000 kids 2-5 in November. Dora
the Explorer, in its one-hour special "Dora's Dance to the Rescue" on
Nov. 11, proved to be a hit, marking the second highest program on all
of cable with preschoolers (K2-5) in 2005. "Dance to the Rescue"
earned a 11.2/1.4 million K2-5 (up +54% versus last year's like time
period), and a 5.9/1.9 million K2-11 (up +61% over last year), and drew
2.8 million total viewers P2+ (up +54% over last year), beating all
competition on basic cable. For the month of November, Dora is
averaging a 6.9/858,000, up +17% versus October.

-- TEENick continues to sizzle. TEENick Saturday is up +7% over last year
among tweens 9-14, averaging a 4.9/982,000 T9-14 (flat compared to
Oct.). On Sunday nights, TEENick is up +20% year to year among T9-14,
averaging a 5.9/1.2 million (up +21% versus Oct.).

-- In November, Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide averaged a
5.9/1.2 million T9-14 (up +10% versus Oct.). Since the premiere of
season two (Oct. 1, 2005), Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide
is averaging a 5.6/1.1 million T9-14, up +47% vs. year ago in
rating.

-- Drake and Josh averaged a 6.3/1.3 million T9-14 for the month of
Nov. (on par with Oct.). The third season of Drake and Josh
(premiered Oct. 1, 2005) is averaging a 6.3/1.3 million T9-14, up
+49% vs. year ago.

-- Unfabulous averaged a 6.9/1.4 million T9-14 (up +14% versus Oct.) in
Nov. and since its Sept. 11, 2005 second season premiere, it's
averaging a 6.0/1.2 million T9-14, up +15% from year ago.

-- In November, Zoey 101 averaged a 7.3/1.5 million T9-14, up +8%
versus October. Since its second season premiere (Sept. 11, 2005),
Zoey is averaging a 7.0/1.4 million T9-14, up +40% versus last year.

Nickelodeon, now in its 26th year, is the number-one entertainment brand for kids. It has built a diverse, global business by putting kids first in everything it does. The company includes television programming and production in the United States and around the world, plus consumer products, online, recreation, books, magazines and feature films. Nickelodeon's U.S. television network is seen in more than 89 million households and has been the number- one-rated basic cable network for more than ten consecutive years. DreamWorks Is Newest Studio to Support Christie/AIX's Digital Cinema Funding Plan

DreamWorks Is Newest Studio to Support Christie/AIX's Digital Cinema Funding Plan

Studio Makes Its Films Available to DCI-Compliant Digital Systems

MORRISTOWN, N.J., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Access Integrated Technologies, Inc. ("AccessIT") (AMEX:AIX) and DreamWorks SKG ("DreamWorks") said today DreamWorks will give full support to exhibitors participating in Christie/AIX's digital cinema rollout by releasing future films in digital format. DreamWorks is the fifth and latest studio agreeing to provide its content for digital distribution and projection and to fund exhibitor adoption of DCI-compliant hardware. The studio's productions will be made available to all exhibitors currently deploying systems under the Christie/AIX's 4,000-screen national rollout plan, starting with the first 150 digital cinema projection systems expected to be installed by December 31, 2005.

Jim Tharp, Head of Distribution at DreamWorks, commented: "DreamWorks was founded to deliver audiences with ground-breaking forms of entertainment. The use of new techniques and technologies has been central to our efforts and digital cinema, with its astonishing visuals, adds to DreamWorks' ability to provide audiences with exciting new entertainment experiences. Having worked with the talented teams at AccessIT and with Christie Digital Systems, we are confident they understand our business needs, the needs of exhibitors, and, most importantly, the needs of movie-goers."

"We are pleased to expand our longtime relationship with Jim and the team at DreamWorks through the signing of this agreement," added Bud Mayo, chairman and chief executive officer of AccessIT. "DreamWorks was an early supporter of digital content distribution, entrusting AccessIT with the digital release of such major movies as 'Madagascar,' 'Collateral' and 'Shark Tale' and we look forward to continuing our work together in the expanding digital era."

Based on the recent distribution agreements signed with Disney, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal and Sony, the company has already begun an initial deployment of DLP Cinema(R) systems in theatres in Detroit, Michigan, owned by Emagine Entertainment, Inc. and at multiple locations in San Diego and Riverside County (CA) multiplexes owned by Ultrastar Theaters, Inc.

The level of support from Hollywood's major studios has enabled AccessIT to expand its total planned installations from 2,500 to 4,000 screens. Disney, Fox, Universal, Sony and DreamWorks will help finance exhibitors' transition to digital technology by paying virtual print fees to Christie/AIX for each film projected on Christie/AIX-funded hardware. The company is also continuing late-stage negotiations with a number of other studios and independent distributors for their participation in the plan.

Jack Kline, President and COO of Christie Digital Systems USA, Inc., commented: "With this commitment to release future movies in digital format, DreamWorks' continues its tradition of providing groundbreaking entertainment experiences. Coupled with our proven DLP Cinema(R) technology, audiences will be able to enjoy the best viewing experience available in the world today."

Under the Christie/AIX funding plan, participating exhibitors will receive complete digital cinema systems at no cost other than a project management fee and a standard 10-year maintenance contract with Christie similar to existing film maintenance agreements. The Christie/AIX-funded deployment of Christie DLP Cinema(R) projectors also includes media players and a central "library" server plus two-way satellite communications and data storage equipment. The central servers feature AccessIT's unique vendor-neutral Theater Command Centre ("TCC") software, which allows all digitally-equipped screens in a multiplex to be networked, simplifying theater operations through centralized content management, scheduling, and reporting.

Access Integrated Technologies, Inc. (AccessIT) is an industry leader in offering a fully managed storage and electronic delivery service for owners and distributors of digital content to movie theaters and other venues. Supported by its robust platform of fail-safe Internet data centers, AccessIT is able to leverage the market-leading role of its Theatrical Distribution System (TDS) with its innovative digital delivery capabilities and in-theatre software systems to provide the highest level of technology available to enable the emerging Digital Cinema industry to transition from film without changing workflows. System Of A Down Makes Chart History As New Album, Hypnotize, Debuts on Billboard Top 200 at #1

System Of A Down Makes Chart History As New Album, Hypnotize, Debuts on Billboard Top 200 at #1

Hypnotize Builds On Chart-Topping Success Of Mezmerize As System Of A Down Becomes First Band Ever To Score Two #1 New Studio Album Debuts In A Single Calendar Year

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The new System Of A Down studio album, Hypnotize, has just debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 best-selling albums chart, giving the groundbreaking Los Angeles-based rock band its second #1 debut in a mere six months.

As Hypnotize glides into the top slot of the Top 200, System Of A Down -- Serj Tankian (vocals), Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass) and John Dolmayan (drums) -- has become the first band in the history of the chart to score two #1 debuts with new studio albums in a single calendar year.

With true first week's sales of 320,185, Hypnotize, the eagerly-awaited finale to System Of A Down's epic two-part Mezmerize/Hypnotize double album set, is mirroring the success of part one, Mezmerize, which debuted at #1 the week of May 17, 2005. (Six months after its release, Mezmerize remains firmly planted in the Top 200.)

Hypnotize, the fifth studio album from System Of A Down, is the group's third to debut at #1. Toxicity, the watershed release that brought the band its first major success, debuted at #1 the week ending September 9, 2001 with first week's sales of 222,037. The album has gone on to sell more than 6 million copies worldwide. Global sales for System Of A Down albums and singles now total more than 16 million records.

The U.S. music press corps, from the underground to the mainstream, has been universal in its praise for System Of A Down and Mezmerize/Hypnotize:

"Rock's heaviest oddballs drop bombs and blow minds on the second disc of their Mezmerize/Hypnotize project." (***1/2)

-- David Fricke, Rolling Stone, December 1, 2005

"Much of this hard-rock rampage, a sequel to May's Mezmerize, sounds like a war zone, with strafing guitars and machine-gun beats piercing a darkness pregnant with tension and aggression." (***)

-- Edna Gundersen, USA Today, November 22, 2005

" ... the band's best album so far ... "
-- Ben Ratliff, New York Times, November 21, 2005

"It's a measure of the band's tenacity and integrity that what seemed like an impenetrable foreign tongue when they introduced it seven years ago has become a universal language." (***1/2)

-- Richard Cromelin, Los Angeles Times, November 20, 2005

"a double album masterpiece"
-- Mikael Wood, Revolver, December 2005

"With Mezmerize and now Hypnotize, System accelerate their shifts from pummel to tune to rant to majesty, so that three-minute songs can sound like epics."

-- Jon Pareles, Blender, December 2005
